We got a review from a helicopter pilot!

I reached out to Bell47 Australia last year (2025) after coming across their review of the MyGoFlight (MGF) cool case. I basically asked if they would consider reviewing our cooling case. Adam from the channel got back to me and said yes. So late last year, I sent him the iPad Mini 6/7 Cooling Case along with a MGF adaptor because he uses the MGF mounts.

His review:

Adam took the cooling case out on a flight with his mate Darren and his classic Bell 47G-5A named 'Larry'. He had it on a MGF kneeboard and then at some point flew with the cooling case attached to the suction MGF mount. The main thing he was looking out for was whether the mounting was secure/stable enough and if the iPad rotates during translation where there might be more vibrations. This happens for some mounts. But our cooling case didn't do that which was good.

Overall he didn't think there were any critical safety issues which was the most important. It also didn't impede any controls or get in the way of anything. The other key thing was that the cooling case kept the iPad mini from temping out.

What Adam didn't mention in the video was he prefers to have it mounted on the kneeboard. He finds that there is still a bit of vibration when attached to the suction cup mount and it can be distracting. More over, according to CASA regulations (CASA CAAP on EFBs, AC 91-17 v1.4):

"6.3.1 EFBs with temporary mounts that attach to the aircraft (e.g. suction mounts, Velcro pads etc.) are regarded as unsecured devices, and they should be stowed during critical phases of flight. These temporary mounts are unlikely to be considered airworthy and may constitute a hazard on the flight deck or crew station in certain circumstances. EFBs attached to kneeboard holders do not need to be stowed."

So ultimately, kneeboard is his preference to ensure highest standards of safety and compliance in Australia.

What he would like to see:

He would like a lanyard or strap that attaches the cooling case to the mount so that in the event the cooling case somehow dislodges from the mount for whatever reason, it will just hang and now fall.   

He would also like a better way to confirm that the cooling fans have activated.
